Jonas; In trying to map an image created in Time Arts Lumena on a mesh created in 3ds3; I have noticed a couple of things recently: 1. The image comes up in 3ds with a reduced contrast range usually favoring the higher end of the contrast range.(i.e. much lighter darks than I created). I believe the problem is in 3ds3 because; I can call up the image in a 3rd party viewing utility, and the image looks as I created it. I call the same image with 3ds3 Render\View..\Image; and it has reduced contrast range. 2. I started with an image pulled from the World Creating CD added added to it in Lumena, and then tried to map it on a mesh object. The part of the image from the CD went almost completely dark while the part added in Lumena had the problem described above. These are problems that have popped up since I upgraded to 3ds3 from 3ds2. Any ideas? Thanx; Dave

First read pg 4 of the advanced user's guide for r3 for an explanation of gamma. Second, read pg 3-15 for more details to file input gamma, display gamma, output file gamma, and display gamma. Third, set your date back on your "Messages-Set Date" a week and scroll through the messages looking for a description of Gamma. You'll find many. Gamma is being talked about in a number of places recently. jonas[adesk]

PMJI, but it sounds like the various images were created with, or while monitoring with different gamma settings, and the input gamma in 3DS does not correspond. Turn off all gamma correction in 3DS (or at least INPUT gamma) and view the Lumena images – do they look right now ? BILL

It's definitely a gamma problem. You didn't mention if the Lumena files were Targa files. If so, perhaps Lumena is embedding bogus gamma data. In addition to the other suggestions, you might try turning off the USE-TGA-GAMMA setting in the 3ds.set file and see how that affects things. – Jack
