Help! Help! Help! Help! Can anyone tell me why my Speed Star 24x will not play flc's in Studio??? It will play fli's but, flc's show up tiled several times on the screen. I would greatly appreciate any assistance. Thanks Scott Lunsford

Scott – First the bad new: Sorry, no can do! The reason this happens is because 3DS has built into it an "auto-detect, super vga flc player" that trys to detect what VGA you have, and max resolution. This library built into 3DS does not understand MANY of the newer Super VGA's. The Diamond 24x is using a WD90C31 chip, which the internal library does not know how to deal with. It actaully detects it as something else, and tries to talk to it incorrectly, causing the screen to divide and do other "strange" things. Don't feel too bad, almost all of the newer technologies are suffering from the same problem… The good new: While there is no solution now, I'm sure that shortly, we will be able to help you out. Jack Bayt – Vibrant (Gary, this is only going to get worse. We answer this question many times every day…)

Jack, we'll be loading flic playback drivers for r3 (as you know). That'll solve the problem. For now, folks with those kinds of boards will have to put AAPLAYHI.EXE in their Program menu and use that to play hires flics. – G

Umm, Gary, doesn't 3D Studio talk to the Speedstar 24x properly if the VESA driver is loaded? Or is there a problem when the board is used in 24-bit mode? Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

It should, as long as the Speedstar goes into a VESA mode that is compatible with 3DS' VESA driver. Apparently, the 24x's VESA driver isn't quite compatible. We'll be dealing with this in a flexible way in r3, however. – G

JackB is correct… the Speedstar uses an SVGA method that doesn't conform to the method that 3DS understands. This'll be made more flexible in 3DSr3, but for now, you can work around this by putting AAPLAYHI.EXE in your Program dropdown menu and shelling out to it to play hires flics. AAPLAYHI.EXE is available with AA Pro, or (if you don't have AAP), it's downloadable here from the forum. – G

Where can I find AAPLAYHI.EXE? I've done some searches but I've come up empty. Thanks, Danny…

It's called AAPLHI.ZIP, and it's in DL10. – G PS: Note, to find that, I went to the DL prompt and typed: BRO KEY:PLAYER ALL That searched through all the data libraries for any files with the keyword PLAYER.

Thanks Gary, I was using "BRO KEY:PLAY ALL". Close, but no cigar. <g> Danny…
