Here is something interesting concerning sony. It is in the AP news, under the business news section. Sony has introduced a new computer division, and will sell a game console (?) called the playstation. The plays station includes multiple processors for sound and graphics (unique idea, hey?), dedicated 32 bit cpu, and full frame video at 30 frames per second. Sounds like an interestng game console, and a lot like the Amiga CD32?? Probably just a coincidence, but interesting reading. Gary.

The PlayStation uses the PSX graphics chip … from what I've read, a very nice graphics chip for games, but, absolutely no relation to Amiga or CD32.

Steve, You said and I quote, "The PlayStation uses the PSX graphics chip … from what I've read, a very nice graphics chip for games, but, absolutely no relation to Amiga or CD32." From what I understand, the PSX chipset is based on chipsets designed by Sony for their line of digital audio/video mixers. Hmm… wonder what else this thing can do! ;-} Regards, John Chang Technical Support Manager Scala, Inc.

John, Several gaming houses have the chipset now and are actively developing for it. If you weren't being rhetorical I'm sure that you (Scala) can get the full specs.

Steve, Er, umm… Actually I was kidding around. However, if it can be used as a low cost delivery platform, I'll look into it. Thanks! Regards, John Chang Technical Support Manager Scala, Inc.

I sit… I watch… And I am impressed that you associate well in all areas of the Amiga/C= forums. I like that in a company… Someone who is rubbing elbows with his customers in this relaxed environ. Thanx John, Gives credibility to Scala, too. Jim Garner (Zeddock- but the sysop smacked the back of my hand and said "Thou Shalt Use Thine Own Name!", so just call me jim)

Gary, Sony seem to be concentrating their efforts in the announcement division of the company these days. Every month it seems they've done a deal with someone or other to produce a games console – I've yet to see any of them actually make it past the announcement stage! I recall similar stories concerning Sony/Nintendo, Sony/Sega etc in the past. Will it happen this time?…… Mal

There's an article on the PlayStation in the latest business week I believe. ML
