I guess my last message should have been to 'ALL' but I did have another..Is there any way in 3DS to do a company logo without actually creating it all in the 2D shaper or other levels? As I said before, I'm kinda new to this, but I figure I could use a Targa on a surface, but to do a genuine 3D logo, I figure I would have to start from scratch. Is t this correct? Brian

Brian, Well it depends. You could do the down and dirty approach by creating just the outline in the shaper. This is easy to do by bringing in the image as a background in the shaper and then outlining it. If you need more 3D detail you could also create more shape outlines for raised or relief portions. Then you can then loft the shape to create depth. Once this is done you can map the scanned or Targa image onto the outline. This would give you a logo with depth which you could then as you see fit, and is fairly quick to accomlish. In the lofting process you could also bevel the edge. -JE

(A 3D mesh I can understand).

PMJI, don't you just set the image up in the 3D editor as a background and choose to see background from the pull-downs in the 2d shaper (make sure you lock the viewport so you don't scroll out of the frame). You wouldn't happen to have a PAR device would you? I'm looking for some "close to deadline" advice and my PAR isn't working. Jimbo

Yup. The best way (only way I can imagine) is to create the elements of your logo in shaper, then loft and then 3D. Once you get the hang of 3DS it is a snap. The tricky part is lights and cameras. Takes time. Hang in there. …SW

Brian, I've been looking at your messages and wondering… Have you gone through the 3D Studio Tutorials yet? The questions you're asking are pretty basic to the operation of 3D Studio. If you do the tutorials, you'll have a much better start with the program, and it'll take you much less time to get over the learning curve. – Jack
