Rainbows?
2 messages in this thread
Can anyone suggest a BBS, forum, etc. where I could download a decent video
graphic of a rainbow? VGA 640×480 would be fine in any graphic format usable
within Animator Pro or 3D Studio.
I'd like to be able to chroma key it over live video footage of the sky.
If I can't find anything else, I'll just settle for manipulating a few circle
segments in the primary rainbow colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and
violet. I'd prefer, however, to find something in which the colors blend into
each other more naturally.
Whatever I find, my production deadline is tomorrow morning (Saturday).
Thanks,

One day doesn't give anyone much time, Lee!!! 🙂 Even if I could generate one
for you from scratch, it would take a day or more for it to become visible
here. Soo… let me make a suggestiong. If you have Animator Pro and 3DS, go
into ANI and do the following:
1) go to the palette dialogue and use 5 clusters (bands of about 8 color boxes)
defined by ramping as follows:
red to orange / orange to yellow / yellow to green / green to blue / blue to
purple
regather all bands into a single cluster, filling the gradient box with the
entire ciombination. use the CIRCLE tool with OPAQUE ink to create a large
filled circle with some arbitrary work color. Using RGRAD, pick center in the
center of this filled circle, drag the radius out about a quarter of the
circle's radius. FILL the circle with RGRAD (you get a warner brothers cartoon
effect.) Black out the unwanted bands of colors. You now have a rainbow ring.
save as rainbow1.gif
2) separate all colors (SEP.) in the rainbox to pure white. save as
rainbow2.gif
3) go into 3D studio and create a material with rainbow1 as the texture map
(blue the hell out of it) and rainbow 2 as the opacity map. save it, and apply
it to a flat vertical box object, map it flush with the flat side. you can now
orient the "rainbox" infront of the image, inside it, in fog, our out anywhere
in the model. The box won't be seen (opacity map).
good luck. -dave
