On Friday I stopped by the Creative Computers showroom in Lawndale, Ca. It
appeared that they were packing up their Amiga hardware and software in
boxes. I mentioned it to the salesman, and he said "It appears that way,
doesn't it ?". I asked if he knew what was going on and he said "Nobody's
saying anything." He also said they weren't giving any special discounts
at the time. Does anybody know what the story is ? That's one of the few
places in Southern Cal. with any appreciable Amiga stock.
I don't have any news for you, but I appreciate the news from you. Do you
have any idea if they did the same at the other store?

Just to add, I placed a call to Creative Computers on Friday and the
person on the 1-800 number said when I asked
Me: "What is the current pricing on an Amiga 4000?"
Sales Person: "WE DON'T SELL THOSE ANY MORE!"
I don't think anyone will have to read between the lines here!
I picked up the new issue of AmigaWORLD, AND they were selling off Amiga
hardware at clearance prices, but when I called to order an A3000 which they
were adverising at $275, they(Creative Computers) were very rude. The salesman
said we dont have any. When I asked him what he had left he simple replied "a
Lot" the hung up. How rude. By the way, where is KJ Computers? I would like a
number also.
I must have talked to the same guy, because I got the exact same
answer to the same question!
Heh, Heh! We ought to get a whole slew of people to call and ask the
same questions…
If a few thousand rabid Amigans called your 800 number from clear
across the country and you didn't have what they wanted you would be
a bit miffed too…
Yes, well, they appear ALREADY miffed, and it's not unreasonable to
assume that a company will get calls for a product for a while after
stopping to carry it.
They've been rude for a couple of years, so the past couple of weeks is
not really an exception for them. Also, I called a Canadian company today
who had obviously been through the same bombardment. They were happy, and
jocular. Must be all that clean air, ay?

You said "North of what's left of CSUN". Was it hit that bad by
the earthquake?
Bad? Bad? Every single building is unusable, including the library, and
all the classes are meeting in tents and trailers. Does that sound bad?

Harv Laser, who lives a short distance from one of the Creative
stores, reported on InterNet that he walked into the store ready to
take advantage of those specials. He was told that the whole
'Specials Ad' was a mistake and should never have made it to print.
Seems no one is watching the store, huh? Or purely an advertising
ploy.
Seems lately that Creative is also being creative with their ad's. They
have 3000's at "Blow Out" prices, but couldn't get one unless it was a
refurbished reject. That's one of the main reason's that I stopped doing
business with Creative and stick with Safe Harbor, at least they are
honest.

Define "refurbished reject".
My A1000 was/is a refurb (circa mid 1986) and it still runs along fine to
this day. (almost 8 years)
Refurbished is not a kiss of death.

No offense intended if you have a refurbished 1000 Chris, so mellow out
<g>. It was more a slam against Creative (which is the title) than
refurbished computers.

No chillin out neccessary… there was no offense taken (or even noticed!)
Sorry if my reply seemed so, I was just pointing out that _MY_ experience
with refurbs has been good… so far!

I had heard that they dropped the Amiga line at one of their other stores
quite a while ago, but I don't know if that's true.
It's true.
Though it's not close to Lawndale (by 40 miles or so), KJ Computers in
Granada Hills is still >98% Amiga. They've made it clear that 4000s are
no problem to get. 1200s are very hard to find. Everything else is
obtainable. They don't keep a massive stock like Creative did but if they
don't have it and they can get it, they'll get it.
I've never trusted Creative even when I bought my first 2000 back in
86/87.

Jeez, KJ Computers is still around? I lived in Manhattan Beach when the 1000
came out. KJ was always a great source for Amiga stuff. I still have my first
1200 baud modem from them. I haven't used it in years of course..
Does KJ Computers have a phone number or address?

As a dealer myself, I can confirm what KJ has said. A4000's are pretty
easy to get. A1200's are not.
Forget Creative and KJ. I like dealing with TS Computers in North hollywood.
They have a huge demo table, with amilink, par, and 4 computers up running
demos. I called them today, and they just got in a Raptor! Their number is
818-760-4445.
Beware of TS Computers. The LA Detectives helped me recover my stolen
A4000/Toaster/PAR/Emplant/1960/SCSI doom developer system from Martin
Geisler at TS Computers…who paid only $2000 to a guy with only a Beliz
passport for ID for $12000 worth of Amiga equipment. When he called about
the serial number to NewTek, red lights flashed everywhere (you aren't
supposed to be selling developer Toaster cards…hehehe). The serial
number on my PAR card was unique as well….00000001…since I was the
FIRST beta tester for the PAR :}
The police know he knew it was stolen and only the guy's stupidity got him
caught…and the guy's stupidity is what got him into the mess in the
first place…and cost him $2000 in losses…and got me my computer back.
If thieves didn't have a place to sell their goods, their would be no
profit in stealing. Stay clear of this loser and his company.
I've heard his many past employees think he's a scam artist as well.
