#ZIP/EXE
3 messages in this thread
Hello seasoned users! I have WB 1.3, and I want to read a ZIP file, and an EXE
file I have downloaded to my df0. The EXE file is ARCHLP.EXE and may help me
with reading the zip. According to my 1987 Intro to the Amiga book, page 7-5, I
can do almost anything with the CLI except open and read a file! I used to have
a C-64 where you typed RUN, and the program ran! What's more common than OPEN,
RUN, or EXECUTE?! Of course the DOS manual is no longer available, so I'm
limited to just using E-Mail here on Compuserve. I'm really frustrated at how
time and money consuming getting info out of the SYSOPs is! My first month's
CIS bill was over $70! If someone can help me, please do. I need to print out a
copy of the ZIP file before Thursday night. Rusty
You don't need to give any command to run a file, just type the filename!
Rusty,
Back at the beginning, I remember advising you to go to the PRACTICE forum
to learn how to use CompuServe. It is free, and they can teach you how to
do all the things you need to do here. True, they do not have Amiga files
there – but they can tell you how to do things, and it won't run up your
bill.
We have tried and tried to tell you how to do things. It's just that we
don't have the ability to see your screen and see the messages you are
getting. We don't know what directory your files are in. We cannot guess
where things are so that we can give you exact directions.
From what you just said in your message, I'm wondering if you downloaded
LHA138.RUN using its full name. If you changed the name, things will not
work the same as if you used the same name we have here.
Anyway, for ARCHLP.EXE, just CD to the directory where it is, and then
type ARCHLP.EXE, and it will run. That one does not have to be unpacked.
