Please bear with me, this is the first message that I have sent on
compuserve. I am having problems confiquring my Vibrant drivers and
my Viper card. I keep getting the following message:"error number
1807, Weitek 5186/5286 not found. Is this a an address problem? I
read some of the other related threads and subsequently downloaded
Vib3ds.zip from the library. I assume that I need to unzip this file
( I am not familiar with the zip/unzip utilities). If so, where (how)
do I place the new drivers? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Download the latest copy of PKZIP which is 2.04g. I think you can find this
file in many forums such as the IBM forum or one of the Windows forums. This
file will provide you with both the unzip and zip utilities. Tip- Download the
shareware program WINZIP. If you use Windows you'll love this shell for Pkzip.
I think you can find it in WUGNET.
The VIB3DS.ZIP file has a vibrant.doc file which describes how to
complete the installation of the drivers. All you basically do is
copy the two of them to the right locations but first you must rename
the existing equivalents so there is no conflict.

According to the initial information from Weitek, only the 5186 and
5286 VGA chips could be used on the P9000 boards. Thus, we check
this and didn't allow any other VGA chip to be used. A about 6
months ago, Diamond decided that that they wanted to use a differnt
kind of video memory (I think VRAM) because the other kind (DRAM) was
getting too expensive. The Weitek VGA didn't support it, so they put
an Oak VGA chip on the board. This, of course, prevented Vibrant's
drivers from working. Starting with 1.0.1, we use a Diamond BIOS call
to check the VGA Chip… if no result, we then check for the Weitek
5186/5286. The user just needs the updated drivers, which he is in
the process of doing.
