IM R/T Print Problem
15 messages in this thread
Ben,
Ran into a little IM (1.5) snag tonight. I tried to print a 16-color image
using the F5 Poster Printer module. I got as far as defining custom size,
entering width and height, and then I get an error message (or worse, a
crash).
Strangely, the first printout I tried worked fine. Subsequent attempts
failed.
The file is a 752 X 1128 IFF ILBM 16-color image.
I'm using an A2000 '040 with 18 megs RAM (2 mg CHIP).
Thanks for any help you can offer. BTW, the printout that worked looked
great. I'm hoping to do more graphics dumps with IM R/T.

Hum. Stephen, would you try turning off the 040 caches and see if that
helps? I've not seen the poster printer module lockup… :^(

Thanks Ben. I'll give it a whirl.
BTW, I don't think the problem is related to image size or memory, because
I tried it with a number of images (large and small) with the same error.

Howdy Ben, here's a suggesttion for a Tutorial to add to Appassist docs.
Sort of an Ultimatte like tutorial. Using IM's Keying ability's one can
key in new backgrounds over "Footage" shot against Blue Screen or any
other somewhat solid Color thanx to Variance. Or let the makers of the
Videos know of it's value for their next set of tapes. Combine IM with
Newtek's Flyer and I see a nice Video Based Ultimatte machine for Special
FX work.
And Ben, if you do that *simple* tutorial, make sure you show how to process an
entire directory's worth of images, too. Lots of DTV types out there would be
grateful, and it would show (once again) that Imagemaster isn't that much of a
Big Bad Wolf when someone else takes you by the hand and shows you how simple
it is, when you've finally got it figured out.
Blaq!
Will do.l

Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? not me not me not me.
Couldn't resist. Hope ye get yer 3.0 soon, the Bones are quite nice.
For the RISC based rendering engines, we already have a product which will
do what you're describing. It's called "WinImages:F/x". The version 2.0 is
in the process of being released (not quite yet, but we're within about a
day now, I think) and it has fantastic timeline capabilities, etc. which
can be used to handle bluescreening and more.
I'll pass along the suggestion for IM R/t in the meantime.

Winimages:FX is on which RISC based platform now? I thought it was IBM
only at this time……
Official announcements should be forthcoming shortly re RISC.

Ben, I've a prob on which you can set me straight.
I'm missing something w/ regards to MASK. I think I have figured out how
to save a mask in a buffer, tho you might tip me on that. But the prob
seems to come when I want to use the mask that has been drawn in order to
try out painting or processing effects. I end up redrawing the mask for
each new trial run because I can't figure out how to reuse the one that's
already been done.
How do I recall a mask to use the same one over again? The docs are
pretty skimpy on masks.
Thanks.
Dick,
1) Select the desired area. (This can be built up in several steps, using the
logical operators on the right side of the tool palette)
2) Click "Redo". This button locks in your area selection; from now on,
everything you do will only affect this area, until you click on another
selection button.
3) You are now free to try effects 'til the cows come home; just click "Undo"
after each one.
Blaq!
Thanks for the good stuff on using 'masks'.
I've tried to round up all I can on Alpha Channel – but I still can't get
the concept straight. Will you explain it to me, please?
I suspect that eventually the APAssist and Amiga Guide (with APAssist
winning out) method of diseminating docs will be preferred, but I must
confess that the 'change-over' from regular printed docs is sometimes
frustrating.
Just use "ReDo" as the tool; that uses the previous mask.

VERY COOL!!!! Will a certain Blue colored machine be one of those
supported?
