#reflections are wrong

I've had a little time to view your bmp. and scn.. Thanks for taking the efforts to explain yourself clearly. Since I've been mostly away from the computer, I have been studying the question out here in the real not_so_virtual_world with mixed results. I have seen results that still give me pause, but I aslo have identified the optical illusion that may have tripped me up. Because our inner ear "denies" the plane change when we tilt our head, we percieve objects as being flat even when we are "seeing" them on an angle. Reflections on these objects appear not to change when we tilt our head, even though they are shifting with the object. Since we do not "see" the objects out of the horizontal, we do not "see" the reflections tilting. Interesting. Looking through a viewfinder of a camera will help to accent these angle shifts. And clicking the shutter and printing the results will provide the proof. I have no problem admitting a mistake, but I am always suspect when the respose is: if the computer said it, it must be so. Years of drawing and painting from the human figure and landscapes has taught me that we should always question what is in front of us. In fact this my biggest concern when I have students (majoring in art) coming up to me and explaining that they never realized that they would have to learn to draw- because they were planning to go into computers! Learning to draw is the process of learning to see (the drawings themselves are less important). Sometimes the questions we raise are deadends. Case in point. Still, lets not stop asking them. . . sometimes they lead to breakthroughs. Thanks again for paying attention, Frank

But one has to remember those who coded it (trueSpace, 3DS, etc.) put many hours (years…) of thought into the design, with questions just like yours. >Still, lets not stop asking them. . . sometimes they lead to breakthroughs.
