All were enjoyed_much_more than the first episodes of Voyager; I've found
it_very_difficult to sit through an entire episode.

All stunk in their first year. How do you qualify "were enjoyed much more"?

Exactly as stated (sorry, I didn't really think that that was an ambiguous
statement). I never found myself worrying about doing laundry (then going and
doing it), or pick up a book and start reading in the middle of a show during
the first season of those shows, as some more specific examples.

On the contrary I thought ST:TNG was exceptional. There wasn't anything to
compare it to other than the original ST and this one had much better special
effects.<g>

Thay all have good to great special effects, but thier stories lacked. Take for
example Tashia Yar. Did you really believe her to be a security officer. How
about the episod where she and data does the wild thing together. he goes in
the room with a BIG SMILE. It was totally inconsistent with data's character.
How about Picard's loud over acted voice in the first season. It got better as
the season went on and great throughout the seasons. But IMHO Voyage has a
better start than ST:TNG had.

I can agree with that one. There were a few that I didn't care for much, but I
haven't seen anything great yet in the new show. The last one for instace was a
horrid rehash of an over used story line. I've seen the same type of story done
a bunch of times and a lot better in every one. The only character I realy like
in the show is the holographic Doctor. If it wasn't for him the whole show
would suck.

After 26 years as a computer science career militay officer, I test the Star
Trek characters credibility with by attempting to remember actual officers who
fit the fictional personalities. James Kirk was the hardest to match. He sort
of fit some Naval officers I knew, but it wasn't until the Tail Hook scandle
that I could belive he was real enough to not be silly. The Voyager female
officers are comming off a whole lot more credibly than Kirk ever did. Yeah
the PC casting is trite, but these Star Trek shows need a little time to
develop their characters, and Voyager has a good running start. And how about
the doc with a programmer's personality …

Right on there. In a massive attempt to suspend disbelief I tell myself the
senior officers in the Federation Pentagon of the future said:"to hell with
engineering sense and budget overuns, I like the looks of that one and looks
get budget dollars (or credits or whatever it is they spend)" come to think of
it, egotistical self serving senior officers in the federation future don't
require much of a leap of faith …

I don't want them to act like a real military officer. I want them to be
exciting, interesting and different. If I wanted to watch real military
officers all day I'd join the military.<G>

You just hit on a big pet peve of mine about racism (uh oh, here we go!<g>)
Every one seems to have this attitude. You ancestors did it to my ancestors, so
why shouldn't I do it to you? I think it should be laid to rest. The past is
the past lets get on with the future. This is whole reason that racism is such
a big problem in so many areas.
Ok enough of that. Just hit a sore spot.<g>

Oh, you mean they become more like the politicians that change their office
every month or two and stick us with the bill, right?
BTW, if anyone wants to read an excellent scifi book. Check out Enders Game by
Orson Scott Card. This should be made into a movie or something. Speaker for
the Dead is also excellent.

Well, I see your point there, but noway Janeway is nearely as sexist as Kirk,
so I don't feel offense.

Working in the shadow of congress can make one think like a congress-person in
self defense. but I was just offering some sort of a plausible(?) explainiton
why the starships are so darn aerodynamic.
