paul, If you use the internal 50 pin header and ignore temptations to go the 25 pin external port easy route you'll have a higher chance of success hooking up those external devices. I've got 2 internal and 4 external devices on a single ribbon cable snaking from the Series II internal 50 pin header and out an uncovered port hole in the back of this 'ol 2000. And to debunk the rumor that you can't connect 2 Quantum drives together or mix them with Maxtor, I have the following on the bus. 2- Quantum LPS 540MB drives 1- Maxtor 345 MB 2- SyQuest 44MB 1- Wangtek 5150 ES streaming tape. They all work, but all must be powered on at startup, although the tape and SyQ. may be sans media inserted. Oh, yeah, on occassion I'll move the Apple Power CDROM to the Amiga and plug it into that external port, no problem. The ribbon cable exits the Amiga and has a fifty pin IDC male centronics style connector and using another short ribbon out the expansion chasis (mini-pc tower case) with 2 of the female versions. The other ends of the ribbons use 2 or three of the 50 pin insulation displacement header connectors, all positioned along the ribbon to fit each of the bays locations.
