While OS/2 has some support, you know the drill, people want it to have
everything Dos/Windows does. Doesn't matter if you have good
applications, the sheep think you need them all.
People will ask if something can run 1-2-3, when they have never laid eyes
on a spreadsheet in their life. Some friend told them to ask thgat
question as a way of knowing whether or not they are getting a "good"
system.
Hopefully OS/2 will succeed. What I'd really like to see, is a successful
clean break from Dos. Whether it be Windows XX, or OS/#. The
restrictions of having to be backwards compatible with all that old trash
not only inflates the system, but it also hobbles it.

That would be wonderful! Of course, the key word is "successful." It'll be
very hard to convert the masses. Witness the DOS compatibility in almost every
PC OS.

Up until now, dos compatiblity was necessary. However, most current
software has a Windows version. Much of the current software is focusing
on the Windows version, and only giving lip service to the dos versions.
Now is the time to bring out an OS that does not use the old MS dos
restricition and hobbles of backwards compatibility.
The performance alone should make the non dos users who run essentially
100% Windows applications purchase it. That alone should be a significant
market.
Dos is dying, it's time to bury it.
It IS buried – under Windows 95. It's just kind of cremated too 🙂

Well said. The poor slob who buys Microsoft Bob and then uses it to launch his
favorite word processor will have the word processor running under Bob which is
running under Windows which is running under MS-DOS. Enough of the
piggybacking, already.
