The "I think" in your message is obviously an oxymoron.
Commodore began as a typewriter and business machine repair service
in the late 1940's. They never manufactured a typewriter. They were,
however, one of the first manufacturers of electronic calculators, an
early acquirer of CMOS manufacturing capability and even operated a
chain of calculator boutiques.

Odd. At one of the last World of Commodore shows, there was a
historical retrospective of Commodore products. A Commodore
typewriter was among the items displayed.

Really? I've never seen that in any of their corporate biographies.
Did they actually sell them? Or was this a prototype or refurb?
Have no idea what the history of the Commodore typewriter was. It
was just on display at the show, along with calculators and other
early Commodore stuff. Looked like a compact little beast, the kind
of typewriter people could stuff into a duffel bag.
Interesting. I have never seen a reference to manufacturing
typewriters in anything about them. Lots of other stuff, but not
that.
I read an article a long time ago that said Commodore was originally a
typewriter company before Jack Tramiel bought them.

I recall them being a business machine dealer and repair shop,
Peter. Different articles, I guess. <G> Lots of firms back then
refurbished and rented or sold typewriters. Used to be a common sight
in offices, for example, to see a typewriter emblazoned with
"Mid-City Typewriter" decals which was a local dealer of that kind.

A German (?) manufacturer acquired the licence to manufacture
typewriters and other office equipment (I remember document
shredders) under the C=/Commodore brand. This was about 2 years ago
if my memory serves me correctly…
