#Too many edges?
8 messages in this thread
I am trying to join a couple of objects. I seem to have plenty of memory left,
but when I select the two objects then select join, I get a message that says
TOO MANY EDGES. What does this mean and does any one know a remedy? Any help
would be appreciated. This is a head object that I just needed to combine with
my mouth object to complete the head of my character. I haven't started on the
body yet, so if this is a memory problem I am in trouble. I have 16MB so I
don't think that is the problem.
Anyway, in the end it should be a cartoon style character which is similar to
the cardinal bird mascot of the University of Louisville my alma mater.
Will upload a picture of it if I get it close to finished.

Rich,
Imagine _currently_ has an edge limit for each object. I believe it's 32K
edges per object. The only thing to do is to reduce the point count of the
objects in order to be able to join them.
I do have to ask though, is the head object extremely overly detailed?

My kingdom for a good reduction/optimization/smoothing routine. <g>

Hey, keep pressing Alf about it. <g>
I do recall Mike H. saying that they will be increasing the point/edge limit,
or doing away with it alltogether.

That's good news. I never thought to ask for it, but can certainly use it.

Tim,
I've asked for it a couple of times in the past but the need for a higher or no
limit altogether, for me anyways, has increased. I know that they're planning
it, I just hope it happens.

GreG,
Sorry, I didn't sent a note of thanks earlier, but I had NAVCIS problems.
Anyway, I did go overboard with the fracturing. I had all portions of the
combined head object saved in separate pieces before I fractured anything, so I
load'em all back in. I used add faces to add enough faces here and there to be
able to color the head the same as before. I don't know what I was thinking
before. Anyway, I didn't have any problems the second time. I am working on the
upper body now. Maybe I'll upload something soon. Thanks for your help.

Rich,
If you haven't realized it yet, know that you can always just fracture by
edge(s), face(s) so that you can specify exactly where you want the added
detail. This avoids unnecessary geometry that'll surely eat up RAM.
