#A3000 & SCSI-2 HD?

Hi,
I'm considering buying an additional hard drive to augment my A3000's 50 Meg
drive. I have seen 540 Meg SCSI drives advertized for about $260. This drive is
SCSI 2. My question is, can this SCSI 2 drive be used by my SCSI controller in
my A3000, or do I have to find a SCSI 1 drive?
Any help would be appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge you can use a SCSI II drive with a SCSI I
controller. I'm doing so. Of course you won't get all the SCSI II features
but it should work just fine. You didn't mention which drive you were planning
to buy, however…. I'm using a Seagate with my old Series II (GVP) and have
had no problems.

The drive I saw is a 3.5" Quantum 540 Meg SCSI-II drive (they also have a
270Meg) at Creative Computers for $278. The 270Meg is $204. I would like to
install it in the unoccupied floppy area. If there is no compatibility problem
between SCSI-I and SCSI-II in an A3000, I'll go ahead and buy one of those.
What's your opinion of that drive & price?

I've heard that one can get gigabyte (bite?) drives for less around $375 or
around that. That's more than three times the storage space of what you're
talking about. You don't have to buy drives from an Amiga dealer, as a matter
of fact, I bought my last one (500 megger) from Gateway, and the one before
that (Quantum) from a Mac dealer. The prices were much lower. You might want
to shop around a bit more before plunking down your money.
As for whether it will FOR SURE work in your A3000, I can't say as I've
never owned a 3000, but I strongly suspect it will. You should make sure that
you can return it within 30 days "just incase".
