It's on backorder since the demand overwhelmed Iomega's expectation of the market. The Iomega representative had 2 of each type, SCSI and parallel, for presentation. The Zip diskettes come preformatted for either IBM clones or Macs. Denny Atkin has one and was able to reformat it for Amiga. There is no hardware write proctection. Since it's done in software, we Amiga users would have to use the system's Lock command. Since I've also ordered the latest version of CrossDOS from Safe Harbor, it will be interesting to see if the Amiga can use it to write and read a preformatted Zip diskette. The diskette locks into the drive which has to be powered up to eject it; however, there is a tiny port in the back for a paper clip to eject a Zip diskette from an unpowered drive. Besides the 100 MB diskette for $15–$20, there is a 25 MB Zip diskette planned for about $10. It's possible to use compression on the diskettes, too. Since I have only a 50 MB and a 100 MB Quantum harddrives on the Amiga, the Zip drive should give me more storage. The 386 bridgeboard has a 540 MB IDE drive.
