#3.1 on A1200
5 messages in this thread
I just installed Workbench 3.1 on my A1200 030. This info is for who want to
upgrade to 3.1 and have A1200.
-The ROM version is 40.68 -PCMCIA works (tested with Squirrel SCSI PCMCIA)
-MicroBotics A1230XA (030/50/50/16 megs of ram)accelerator
runs with no problems.
and as was promissed in the menual memory auto configures
There is no more need to run AutoXA, the system will
find and recognize the memory immidiatly. Exec and
Expensio libraries that were left in chip ram even
when AutoXA was run, are now in fast ram. (Actualy
Expension lib stays in chip, but Exec is now in fast)
In short all but one library are now in fast ram. -General perfromance of the
system improved. Graphics
are faster, resulting in a 20% increase in AIBB's
WritePixel test. -I heard that users of DKB's Mangoose and Cobra boards
will have problems with memory configuration under 3.1.
I think the patch to fix that is availabel on Aminet
(not sure) -Overscan are increased under 3.1. Thus, in DBLNTSC mode
max overscan becomes 720*647 as oppossed to 704*647
Overscan increases are implimented in almost every mode.
I will not mention all that other software stuff (CD support, etc.) because you
can read that somewhere else (I think). In my opinion 3.1 is a very significan
upgrade for A1200 users, especialy those who use MicroBotics M1230XA. By the
way, MicroBotics kept their promiss. When you get the ROMs (2 chips) dont
forget to read wich one is "A" and "B" it should say, U6A, U6B. Match that with
the same markings on the A1200 ROM sockets.
Thanks for the info, I ve been wondering how the new A1200 3.1 was roking.
And besides, I have a Microbotics board too. 🙂

I hope you will enjoy 3.1. (if you get it)
This is great! I have the M1230XA and a 4MB PCMCIA fast ram card and have been
wanting to get WB 3.1, but what is this about "MicroBotics kept their promiss".
Do I need to get some chips from MicroBotics when I get 3.1 roms or what?

No, if you look in the menual you will see a line where it sais that M1230XA
memory will not auto configure under 3.0, but will under 3.1. By the way, I do
believe that PCMCIA ram slows down yur machine. If you can spare around $140
you can get a4 meg 32 bit 72 pin SIMM. I also believe that 36bit 72 pin PC
SIMMs work with M1230XA. Good luck.
