Hello,
I've noticed a coupla ads in amigaworld and AC for a Commodore A3640 25 Mhz
68040 w/fpu accelerator card for $395
This simply sounds too good to be true. What exactly is the A3640? Is it an
040 board originally for the 3000?
Does anybody know what this board is and what its capabilities and drawbacks
are? Any info is appreciated.

The A3640 board is an 040 processor card that plugs into the cpu
expansion slot on the A4000 and A3000. There are a couple of things to
watch out for if you are going to get one though. At least one of the
companies advertising them is selling the board with the EC version of
the 040 (no mmu or fpu). But I just bought one with the full version of
the 040 for $395.00 from another vendor. Second, from what I have seen
on the nets, it is a bit of a question mark as to its operation in an A3000.
I understand that only later versions of the 3.1 board work. (if those, I
don't
know for sure, mine is in an A4000/030. Good Luck.

Well, I have an Amiga 4000/30 and would love to get a cheap 040 board if it
really works! How does yours work? Can you give my any benchmarks or
comparisons? As long as they're reliable on the 4000's for $395 it's a heck of
a deal.
