#complex object creation
5 messages in this thread
My name is Lee Miller from Belfast, Nortern Ireland. I have been using 3D
Studio for quite a while but I am still having problems creating complexx
objects. Anyone out there who can help with tips, projects files with
descriptions would be very appreciated. I am especially having problems with
fit.
Thanks

Could you be more specific?

i need to make a face complete with all the usual eyes etc. But I cannot get
fit to make all the neccesary contours. Do you have a project file with
documentaion of any complex object you have created I could take a look at.
Thanks

Assuming you're talking about a humanoid type of face, Fit isn't really the way
to go. Have you worked through the manuals, examples, CD, etc ? Briefly, you
want to use either a RevSurf with vertically oriented CS's created in the
Shaper, or simply loft a stack of horizontally oriented CS's along a straight
path. With the SOR, draw profile curves vertically for a typical front & side
view (4 profiles-f&b, l&r), then draw profiles for about 4 steps between the
nose & ear, and a couple between ear & back of head. There's no need to mirror
for the other half of the head, as they will be rotated when brought into the
lofter. Pick a vertex on the SOR path which coincides with a CS, then bring
each CS into the lofter path. Make sure they're aligned properly, tweak if
necessary, and make the object. Otherwise, draw profile curves as if looking at
the head from a top view, beginning with the base of the neck. Draw another as
it would appear, moving up a little from the base of the neck. Continue on up
to the top of the head. Refine your path in the lofter, placing vertices where
each slice should go, and bring each CS into the path. I'm sorry, there's no
easy way to do it or to explain it in a paragraph or two. I'd strongly suggest
getting the YG's Skin.axp, if you need to do this type of stuff.

The easiest solution …
Contact Viewpoint and ask them to send you a CD and a catalog. We have
thousands of complex objects that we can download from the CD for you. Also,
if you have needs for objects that aren't in the catalog, we can build them for
you. We would be happy to do what we can to help.
