#Protecting a demo disk

In today's struggle for customer satisfaction, everyone is trying to please the
customer better than the competition does. In taking that extra step, there is
a danger of a client being dis-honest. For example, what do I do if I have a
case where the client wants a flic on disk, but wants to make sure it works on
their computer, so by sending them a disk they can decide if it is worth it.
What can I do to protect the file if the client says they don't want it after
all, but (by no way of me knowing) use the file anyway. Is there a program
that will only allow one or two uses, then self destruct?

I got a tip from friends in the video world that works quite well and kinda
avoids irritating the client. Put a timecode display on your flic. This makes
it fairly useless for final use by the client and if they are offended you can
say you put it on as an index for them to point out any problems in the
animation.
To create a timecode/clock/frame counter display, just create a flic in
animator pro that counts numbers one at a time from a text file. I also sell a
poco routine for use with animator pro that works quite elaborately for this
purpose plus is useful for the accident recon animators.

James, Why not just use Animator Pro and stick your name in the .flc? I've done
this lots of times and it works fine. You could also do something like the
quicktime demo does – add white horizontal lines across the .flc.

Two things. If your client has to have a flic and not just the animation, you
could use the FLC > EXE converter in the libs. And if you want to add a
timecode you could use the timecode ixp which is also in the libs.
