#Which 3D program to buy?
4 messages in this thread
I'm in the market to purchase a 3d program but I can't decide on Imagine 4.0
or 3d Studio. I'm inclined on getting 3d studio but I've never seen a demo.
Could someone tell me a little about 3d Studio? How many textures are included?
Can I run it within Windows?

Imagine? Hmmm, I'd used several time & quit. It's pretty tedious and no so well
designed interface. Try to model and bring it into other model. You'll spend
most of the time saving files rather than switching directly. Some nice
features but no way close to 3DS. Imagine have quite a few cheesy particle fxs
and inverse kinematics. The whole software look "unattractive". Pretty good
modeler, but that is not good enough to consider in spending $$$ on it.
Consider Lightwave 3-D over Imagine if your budget is not w/ 3DSr4 or later.
Bruce, Being biased as I am, I will say "Don't even consider Imagine." Really.
Call 1-800-879-4233 and ask for a copy of the Siggraph '94 demo reel. I think
it'll be all the reason you need. There have been some people saying it runs
pretty well as a DOS application under Win 95, but currently it _is_ a DOS app.
The next release _5_ will be a Win NT application. It's due around the end of
the year. You could also ask for the name of a dealer in your area and call
them up for a demo. Where do you live? They'd probably even be happy to let you
drive for a while.
Just a user…
