#VGA to NTSC – Portable?
10 messages in this thread
I'm looking for a cheap, basic quality VGA to NTSC converter that can be
connected directly from a vga port to a TV set. (No software or internal
cabling required.)
Does anyone know of such a thing?
Alec Jason
Hi Alec!
We have an external box that converts VGA to NTSC (or PAL) that we purchased
from IDEN. It was about $1500 3 years ago. IDEN's number is 619/492-9239 in
San Diego.
Hope this helps.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the info on IDEN . . . but $1,500 !!!!!. I'm looking more for
something in the less than $300 range.
Thanks,
Alec Jason
Alec read my message!

Alec,
>> but $1,500 ! <<
Keep in mind, that was 3 years ago (21 in computer years <g>) Do you get
"Mobile Office" or "Presentation Products" magazines? I believe they have what
your looking for in the $300 price range.

Steve,
There are quite a few of these vga-ntsc devices around now. It gets very
confusing when you try to distinguish among them for features and capabilities
and price!
Thanks,
Alec Jason
Hi Alec
are you in luck!, how about a converter box that plugs into your computer
monitor, and plugs into your tv for 139$ !, it does 640×480 resolution .. the
MAX any box of this type can handle, … super super colour, no flickering… I
bought this box after finding out about it from another user on this board. I
use it to tape lots of stuff to vhs video casettes, it works super well.
Here in Canada is sells for 249$ but I got it through a computer warehouse last
year in the states for 139$ .. it is called : PRO PC/TV PLUS and the company
name is AI TECH. This is the best buy for the money, and is the most popular
box by far. .. Anyway, now if I can only remember the name of the warehouse.
The name fo the woman who told me about of is : Maura Clover id #: 76430,1414,
anyway, don't let anyone tell you that those 500$ boxes will do a better job,
one of my friends had one at 500 or 500$ and mine does the same thing.
You are in luck, I just checked for the box it comes in .. in my closet, and I
have the name of the warehouse: ok here is the info:
Anyway phone the 1-800 number and order, UPS delivers it to your door:

need info on something, so I pass the favor on, whenever I can.
anyway, let me know what happens,
bye for now

Mark!
Hey, thanks so much for your good info. I imagine the unit you have only does
eight bit color, right? Does it work okay in Windows?
I'm gonna check with AI Tech. Sure is nice to get good information!
Alec Jason
Hi Alec,
sorry I didn't get back to you sooner,
GOD NO!, after I got off-line, I remembered I forgot to tell you about the
colour aspect of it:
here goes:
Product Highlights: ( this is right off my box)
– 24-BIT COLOR SUPPORT (16.7 MILLION COLORS)
– Flicker reduction circuitry for sharp, steady images
– Supports S-VIDEO and composite video
– Up to 640×480 resolution
– Campatible with all VCRs, camcorders, S-Video equipment, televisions.
– MICROSOFT Windows Compatible
……..
Alec,
Yup, it is windows compatible, supports s-video, and when I tell you there is
no flicker, believe it, I tape video and animation to my vhs tapes, and I'm
really surprised how clear it is. The colours are also more true to life than
on the computer screen. When you have windows running, you can actually read
the small writing on the tv screen, and when in DOS, you can read the command
prompt with no trouble. Yeah, I thought you would never be able to see this
paying only 139$ but I was pleasenly surprised.
I've seen it in quite a few computer mags here, and it is in the computer
stores also, and I haven't seen any others. Oh well, I should of told you about
the colours .. just forgot.
anyway, hope this helps you out.
bye for now
Mark in Montreal.
Mark,
Thanks SO much for all your help! I do appreciate the info.
