Wade, Thanks for the reply guy, Yeah its ram. I changed drivers, offed some wallpaper(arches.bmp), and increased my swap file. The error was from Malloc, a C procedure to check available memory and then assign it. Anyway at least then I got the error message, before I had nothing. I am planning to develop a program with CDK, although I could probably get away with the Wing library and linear algebra routines. So that question on NT 3.5 is really if I can run NT Workstation independently of the NT Application Server to save some bucks and because I do not need network capabilities yet. Why CDK? Because as a student I can purchase the $2000.00 prog for about $700.00 and the client I am developing the code for is going to pay for it !!!!! Can't lose on that one, and I will be setting up a cad station for him with R13 bundled w/3DS and some graphics acceleration program. So my app can benifit from the ability to use DXF and 3DS files as well as the ability to export CDF files to these formats as well. It sounds like you are in this field, what machine would you recommend. I am planning on purchasing a new system. I intercepted a message from a company that was using a 486 DX2 with 8Megs, and only a 270 drive. For my compiliers and running in windows I know I can get by with a DX2 with a 15" monitor and killer graphics card, and 8-16 megs o' ram. But I am really considering a Pentium 90 for the faster PCI bus and graphics cards, not to mention the faster CPU with more on chip cache. The price points between these two machines is not much at all. Well thanks again for the reply. Don Haas

Hmm my recommendation? Pentium with no less than 16 megs of ram ESPECIALLY if you are going to be using Autocad R13 and 3D Studio. The more ram the better. And as for NT… I do not think you have to have 'SERVER' I am pretty sure that NT in general will work. Solely because it is a 32 bit operating system and that is what is needed for Microsoft Visual C++ to compile the CDK. The server of course will allow you to have a good network later tho 🙂 Good Luck. Wade
