FLC to AVI?

Is there a way of converting FLC format files to AVI either using an off the
shelf product of a toolkit? Thanks in advance.

As I recall, the Video for Windows 1.x (VFW) developers toolkit, contains a
viewer/editor which can read in AVIs and FLCs and BMPs etc. and spits out AVI
files. I seem to remember trying it on one of my FLI/FLCs and being shocked by
that "blocky" pixelation effect, maybe it's better nowadays.

A lot of people have complained that reading in an FLC directly and getting an
AVI file produced a poor looking file. Better results were obtained by taking
the FLC file and converting it to a series of TGA files, and then importing the
series of TGA files into VidEdit.
Also, if you are rendering from 3D Studio, you can skip the FLC portion
entirely. Render straight to TGA's and import them into VidEdit or some other
AVI making utility.

Thanks for the tip! I guess starting with millions of colors is better than
having gone through an additional palette compression routine. Anyway I'm
having much too much fun using the VBPLAY.VBX to resort to that nasty MCI
stuff!

just have one question. Who produces VidEdit, excuse my ignorance, I haven't
heard of it before. Thanks.

VidEdit is part of Microsoft Video for Windows Software.

VidEdit used to ship with Video for Windows when that product was available as
a stand alone. I don't belive that MS is still offering Video for Windows as a
retail product any more … you get run-time versions of VFW which usually do
not include VidEdit. If you have Animator Pro, you can upgrade it to Animator
Studio for a song (either $150 or $295 depending when you got it). AniStud
will certailly to this and more. Also, Razor Pro and Adobe Premier will also
fit the bill.

Thanks Angelo and Brian for your help. It might try using Animator Studio, I
read the spec earlier this week, it looks quite powerful. "No! of course I am
not buying more software darling! Its just a free upgrade". Just practicing the
line.
