Anyone out there who knows where to find a fresh version of device driver HITACHI.SYS for the CDROM from Hitachi, labeled CDR-1503S. It's an old external CDROM from '87-'88 with a dedicated ISA-card (i.e. not a SCSI). Need new version of the device driver because I've upgraded my MSCDEX.EXE to v2.21 and this new MSCDEX doesn't match my old HITACHI.SYS Help… – Anders

I think I have that model also … I can email the device driver this weekend. If you need it sooner, call Micromedex tech support (800-525-9083), since they standardized on that drive. BTW, I'm sure the interface card is a scsi. -jts

John, No, it's not a SCSI-card. It's an old CD-ROM, Hitiach CDR-1503S, and the card is labeled CD-IFI4 and I believe the card is manufactured by Hitachi. Thanks anyway. Another person on this forum have offered me a fresh driver for the CDR-1503S. I don't know which version this is. What is Micromedex doing? Are they resellers, manufucturers or what? Is the 800-phone numbers available from outside the U.S? (I believe they are free of charge when yoy dial them, and therefore I even believe they ara unavailable from outside the U.S.) Have another 'normal' phone number? – Anders

Micromedex produces a line of medical cdroms, most widely known is the Poisindex used at at US Poison Control Centers. Try 303-831-1400 and ask for tech support. Hope this helps. -jts P.S. Sorry, I should have noticed your 1- account prefix.

John, You can't even rely on the '1' prefix for distinguishing non-USA account holders now. There's quite a few UK and Germany issued CI$ accounts in the US format ie 7xxxx,xxx. Adrian

I recently got the latest driver for a CDR1503S (with IFI4 card) from a Hitachi bulletin board at 516-829-0212. You need to download the file "HITACHIA.SYS". It is working fine under Win 3.1 with the current MSCDEX, version 2.21, which I downloaded from MSL under the name "CDEXT.EXE". Otherwise, Hitachi will send you a disk with everything you need for $40. BTW, the PC Magazine free utility CDPLAYER (11/24/92 issue) works fine for me to play audio CDs.
