#AMAZING B-SPLINE MODELER
7 messages in this thread
Howdy,
I'm just curious about this. While there have been a number of responses and a
slew of downloads re: the Spline Modeler mentioned in this thread, I expected a
*whole* lot more. A great deal of people have begged for a 3DS-compatible
Spline Modeler for a long time, and this is it…and a very good one. I've also
noticed that *most* of the people who have posted messages here in the past on
this subject *haven't* responded. So, this is puzzling.
I would be interested to learn why this is so, publicly or privately. PLEASE
RESPOND IN TAKE 5 section.
Thanks for your time,
BILL
Hi Bill-
I'm a regular lurker around here (still absorbing a terrific amount of info
from the more active members. :>) ) and I've saved many a post with your name
on it for future reference.
I'm interested in your B-Spline modeler, can you e-mail me some ideas about
price, etc.
I guess I'm a little overwhelmed at the moment with the tremendous number of
tools available for me to model within 3DS; especially since I can't buy them
all nor spend the time to become proficient in their use. :*( Right now I'm
looking at Bones Pro, Meta Balls, your posted modeler, an earlier thread
regarding a Nurbs modeler, and the quickly approaching Siggraph announcement
that will detail what the Yost group will have in R5. Will the Yost Group have
a modeler in R5? And whatever happened to Danny Mercurio's modeler??
But I'M INTERESTED! I'M INTERESTED!! (BG) Just a little overwhelmed and
hoping that the forum discourse will help me sort through all the possibilites.
P.S. The examples you uploaded here don't show the modeler's range of
possiblities; the content of the images overwhelms my ability to make a
dispassionate examination of the programs features. Other images would help.
I'm looking forward to more details and discussion.

Hi Carlton,
<< can you e-mail me some ideas about price, etc. >>
Please E-Mail Adam Godfrey @ CIS 73544,3103. The price was in the doc's,
though.
<< Will the Yost Group have a modeler in R5? >>
I'm sure they will, and I imagine it will be a good one.
<< And whatever happened to Danny Mercurio's modeler?? >>
I don't know. Why don't you ask him?
<< The examples you uploaded here don't show the modeler's range of
possiblities >>
They don't? I don't think there's another word that could be said about the
modeler that's not contained in the doc's with those images. Do you have a
*specific* question about it ?

BILL
Hi Bill,
Is this the full version of Real 3D, or is it a slimmed down version
being marketed more for the modeller? If it is the full version, is it a new
release? Will there be a fully functional non-save demo made available? Before
spending >$500 on a program, I'd really like the chance to mess around with it
first, especially considering the number of options soon to be available,
including metaballs, Danny's modeller, and even R5 (of course, R5 is still a
ways away).
Also, Real3d runs under windows, right? (I've got some literature on
it around here somewhere…)
Thanks,
David
Hi David,
<< Is this the full version of Real 3D, or is it a slimmed down version being
marketed more for the modeller? >>
No, it's the full version unlocked 2.5 for WIN 3.1/3.11/NT, which has been
improved over previous releases, and you'll get my book on using the modeler
(when it's done). They might be offering a discount (putting it at about the
number you mentioned) if you buy it now, and wait a month or so for the book.
For a little more money you can upgrade to 3.xx, which should be release also
in about a month, and there are a number of further improvements included in
that version. The 4.xx NURBS release will be sometime later, and they might
seperate the modeler on that one.
<< Will there be a fully functional non-save demo made available? >>
Yes, I understand that there is. You need to E-Mail Adam Godfrey @ 73544,3103.
Have you downloaded REALGI.zip in Mesh/Proj. section ? Besides the images, I
included a *TON* of very detailed info on the program's capabilities. Get in
touch with Adam on the demo, read all that stuff I uploaded, and let me know if
I can answer any more questions. Also, please check out my other messages in
this thread for my honest opinion of the s/w. It's not perfect, (what is?) but
it's extremely powerful and connects with 3DS. I think you might like it. My
book should help tremendously with the fact it's a deep program, and the
modeling doc's aren't so good.
BTW, did you ever get your wacom & mouse to run under 3DS ? I could get them
both up with either stylus, but the tablet behaved erratically, and the driver
blew out every time I switched back to the mouse. Are you having any success
with MeshPaint ?
Regards,
BILL
Thanks, I'll mail Adam about the demo.
>>Wacom…
I got my Art-Z tablet to work (at the shop), but only in mouse mode,
both summa and the 3ds wacom driver won't work. However, even in mouse
(relative) mode, its pretty easy to use, even on all normal 3ds operations, so
I just leave it there for any session that I might be using Meshpaint. On the
other hand, my tablet at home (12×12) refuses to cooperate even in with the
wmouse driver (the puck works fine, but the pressure stylus… forget it). Even
if I got the stylus to work, I don't know how practical it would be considering
the older pens have no right click button, which I guess would be the main
reason why you want to switch between the tablet and the mouse.
And about Meshpaint… despite some annoying problems, lack of
features, etc, it is still an amazing program, and I already have trouble
thinking how I would get by without it (even after only using it for 2 or 3
weeks).
David
Thanks for the info David. Let me know if I can answer any more questions that
you might have.
