Hi John: I finally finished replacing my hard drives, and placing ALL my work on-line (well, almost, one drive is removable and I have to power down to swap). I decided I had to do something when I started to work on the waterfall (for SigGraph). Every time I needed one of my old animations, I had to get it from tape. Not very conducive to being creative! < He might be willing to do it on a contractual basis > Thanks for the plug (I can use the work). << an hour to process the boxes for 70 frames and another 38 mins or so to render them, so figure about 2 mins a frame all told. Very fast IMO. That's below par for a typical animation. >> <<with KeyFactory couple of thousand objects its taken 4 to 6 hours to build all the keys>>. Thanks for the info John, I was wondering what a Pentium could do. (I have a 486-66). Ed K

Hi Ed, Glad to hear you've got your drives up an operational. I think the biggest challenge facing us in the future is going to be how to keep it all organised. A constant battle for me. It would help if more imaging programs allowed you to annotate them. Once we fully switch over to NT short file names will be a thing of the past as well. But under the constructs of DOS we'll continue to be limited. Imaging management is an area where I think there is a lot of opportunity. So how's the Siggraph project coming along…? Feel like you've got a handle on it? I think my times on rendering the particles may have been off a bit. It seems like the first time it went pretty fast and the second time was slower. Not by that much but as I'm doing alot of things at once, it could have been closer to 2.5 mins a frame which is still quite fast especially for this sort of thing. One of these days I want to combine Meta Reyes and one of these particle systems but I still haven't gotten to it. I won't have the time but if this is something you're interested in it would make a good topic for Planet Studio. Cheers, John
