animated lensflare info

The ts lib contains a file called lensflar.zip which contains a 15fps avi
example of what can be done with ts and Adobe Premiere and Photoshop to produce
an animated lens flare. This message suppliments info not contained in the CIS
file description.
The animation, a total of 270 frames for 8 seconds at 30fps at 320×240, was
created in ts as 2 pieces. The uploaded avi is at 15fps to reduce dl time.
The green grid backgound and gradient-starry sky were created in Corel
Photopaint and converted to a transparent TXR in ts.
The ts part of the animated lensflare consists only of an animated spotlight
aimed downward and a small sphere (not visible in the final animation) attached
as a sibling. The sphere was used for positioning of the lens flare filter in
Photoshop in each frame. – Yes each lens flare was done 1 frame at a time –
just as any cartoon animator would have to do.
After rendering in ts, the animation was brought into Adobe Premiere 4.0, saved
in FLM format, imported into Photoshop 2.5LE and each frame was edited with the
Lens Flare filter. The finished FLM was then loaded back into Premiere. This
process actually when fairly quickly. Each frame was be done in about 10
seconds.
The Prudential Logo, my client – not me, was created in ts using a white fog
effect to simulate the logo coming out of intense glare. If you manually
advance the avi frame by frame you can see the effect more clearly since it
goes by so fast.
The logo was then brought into Premiere as an overlay and chroma keyed to white
to make all the white transparent. The net effect is you see all of the
animated lensflare avi in the background and the logo appears to come out of
the flare when it is at it's most intense setting.
The animated text – The Prudential in the transparent box was done entirely in
Premiere
FYI, Entire presentation contains:
2 minutes of animation
8 ts animations
source AVIs in full frame format total 750MB
Final compressed size in Indeo 3.2 is 34MB at 30fps 320×240
Comments welcome.

Why not use the lens flare in Premeire??? It's the same filter as the one in
Photoshop, plus it can be 'animated'

Does Premiere have Lens Flare ?? – I've never noticed this!!

Yep, sure does. Great for linear movement and intensity changes. See my reply
to Rob Bryerton.

Yes, I am aware of the flare filter in Premiere. I tried that first before
resorting to the manual way. I don't know if you downloaded the avi or not,
but if you look closely, the flare is "very animated". Premiere will let you
apply the filter at different positions and intensities for the start and end
frames and what you end up with is a linear transition between the settings –
no curves allowed. The animation path has circles and loops in it. To
accomplish the same result, I would have had to break the avi up into many
pieces in Premiere and apply different settings to the various pieces. Even
then it would not be exact.
In Photoshop I am able to precisely set the flare where I want with the help of
the zoom levels etc.
I do admit though that I might possibly have used it on about half of the
animation since the path is linear on two separate 2-3 second segments.
Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to try that on the next project.

What version of Premiere are we talking of?
If it's v1.1, what's the name of the lens flare filter?
Am I missing something?

4.0; if you like 1.1 then you _must_ get 4.0…
