Hello AutoDesk,
I have just installed Windows95, and it seems to have no trouble at all running
3dStudio (R4). I am curious to know if 3dStudio will run quicker in standard
DOS though. I just purchased 3dStudio, and do not have a frame of reference to
go by, just that the manual states that performance will be slower in Windows
(presumably 3.1). I cannot figure out how to run my old DOS, as Win95 has it's
own strange version.
Any info would be appreciated!
The reference to slower Windows performance is based largely on the rendering
times. Memory supplied to 3DS when shelled out of Windows may come from the
swap file on the hard disk. Without Windows loaded, the same rendering might
not use the disk and thus be faster.
Also, there are some limits about graphics resolution and color depth that you
might run into while shelling out from Windows that you wouldn't encounter in a
DOS environment.
