#Palette Question
10 messages in this thread
Hi guys,
A quick Animator/Ani Pro question..
I thought a standard video card (VGA only) had 64 level of each RGB signal
therefore you could use any 256 colors from a possible palette of 262,144.
And a SVGA video card could look at 256 levels of RGB or use any 256 of 16.7
millions colors…..However, I can only ever remenber seeing 256 levels of RGB
in both early animator (320 x 200) and Ani Pro (vesa)
Is there no correlation between the RGB sliders in Ani Pro & Animator and the
levels of RGB…
I suppose I thought Animator (320 x 200) should have had only 64 level of RGB
adjustment…but I don't remember … Did animator only have 64 levels on it
palette sliders?
any input would be great…it just started annoying me <g>

AniPro has 0-255 controllable levels of color per Red, Green and Blue control
over its pallete. -dave
Hi Dave,

i could have sworn the sliders were the same… 0-255 values could be input for
the RGB. I think so, because it was capable of generating .FLi files and these
allow 256 colors per RGB… yeah… 256 registers, each with 0-255 RGB value.
That's gotta be right. -dave
Hi Dave,
GH> I believe a standard VGA card (capable of only 640x480x16 OR 320x200x256)
only had 64 levels of RGB (ie: 64x64x64) so it could only choose 256 colours
from a possible 262,144…It's just I don't remember there being 64 levels on
the sliders. I thought there were 256 levels on the orignal Animator….I
suppose it dos'nt mattereveryone got SVGA cards now…This qusetion come in a
class I was teaching about the importance and problems of video cards in
Multimedia/Animation app's
Thanx for the input

it was driving me crazy… i just couldn't remember it's been so long since
i've worked with baby animator…. so…. i loaded her up again. gosh what a
trip down memory lane! i had forgotten how far along animator pro had come!
<ggg> yes, you are correct, it was values of 0-64 per RGB, 64x64x64 capability
with 320x200x256. aaaah my memory's going! <ggg> i'd forgotten how versatile
this program was in its infancy too. hardly took any harddisk space, quick
sucker when it runs, and quite a bit of functionality to it. man i feel old.

ThanX Dave,
NAAUG> Makes me feel old
GH> Ditto <g>
I couldn't remember either and I don't have a copy of Animator…
thanx for clearing that up for me..It come up in one of my classes

The original Animator had 64-level sliders for RGB — I don't really remember
why. At any rate, you still had 256-levels of RGB in reality, because it was
outputting 8-bit color.
