#LJ 4V – A5 & C6 Envelope
2 messages in this thread
Using HP Laserjet 4V we are having a problem using the single sheet feeder with
Word for Windows 6.0.
Using A4 paper there is no problem, however using A5 paper with the MP tray,
the sheet feeder takes the paper centered on the tray. Word however still
starts printing at the left hand edge of the sheet feeder, giving the effect
that the printing starts off the top of the A5 page.
The printer driver we use is 31.v1.50 Windows 3.1. Is this the most recent?
The other problem is in printing C6 envelopes. The manual states that the
printer should print on this size envelope but when we try, it feeds through
and does not print anything. Can anybody help?
Tony,
According to my information, the 4V/4MV does not directly support either
the C6 or A5 sizes, nor can it accept arbitrary (user-defined) paper sizes. If
it could, it would know how they are fed in the MP tray and would position the
images correctly. Comm 10 envelopes, for example, are supported by the printer
and Word is able to print them correctly.
Lacking printer support for these sizes, the user (or application) must
request the printer for a larger, supported size and fudge the margins to
obtain the desired result. This is what Word does (and every other Windows
application that I've checked). Unfortunately, the 4MV was introduced after
Word was released and Word is assuming that the feed orientation and position
is the same as with a LJ 4M. This simply doesn't work with the 4MV regardless
of the driver being used.
The workaround is to select letter size paper and for you to fudge the
margins to accommodate the centered feed and rotation unique to the 4MV.
