#Gilt picture frame

Has anyone created a gilt picture frame. The sort that would house one of the
old masters in an art gallery.
I need one pretty urgently so if anyone can help with donating one to a worthy
cause or any tips on how to construct and texture one I would appreciate it
very much.

One simple way to construct a picture frame is to create a cross-section shape
of the molding in the Shaper, plus a square shape. In the Lofter, use the
square for the path and the cross-section for the shape. Turn off Tween, turn
on Contour, and create your frame.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I really need it to be very ornate with scroll
bits on the corners and in the centre top & bottom. I could try bump mappping
a texture on to it but the angle we are looking at the frames is very acute and
I don't know if a bump map will work properly.

Alan,
PMJI, but have you considered using the "Displace" IPAS? You could draw a
detailed ornament in something like Fractal Painter, keeping in mind that the
lighest values become the highest and the dark values wil recede; and because
of the nature of the process, you will not be able to have any shapes that
curve under themselves. Then have "Displace" create your ornament and
step-and-repeat it around the perimeter of your frame.
Is this a realistic solution for you? I hope so. I'm a big fan of outragoeus
baroque ornametation and detail, so I've thought about this problem. (I'm
currently hoping someone will give me the opportunity to do a 'virtual
Liberace-World'!!!)
