Alan, PMJI, but have you considered using the "Displace" IPAS? You could draw a detailed ornament in something like Fractal Painter, keeping in mind that the lighest values become the highest and the dark values wil recede; and because of the nature of the process, you will not be able to have any shapes that curve under themselves. Then have "Displace" create your ornament and step-and-repeat it around the perimeter of your frame. Is this a realistic solution for you? I hope so. I'm a big fan of outragoeus baroque ornametation and detail, so I've thought about this problem. (I'm currently hoping someone will give me the opportunity to do a 'virtual Liberace-World'!!!)
