3DS R5 speed?

I was wondering is if anyone out there has the experience to give an
educated guess as to the rendering speed of R5. I don't have any experience
with NT so I don't know what to expect from R5s renderer. How does software
developed for NT compare speed wise to DOS/Pharlap? Excluding multithreading,
will the R5 renderer likely be faster or slower on the same system as used with
R4? What kind of speed difference should we see? 1X, 2x, 1/2x … I know that
an answer to this will likely be based on speculation. But what's life without
a little speculation?
Multithreading, multiprocessing, SMP, RPC, Device not supported, P6, PPC
Alpha, Among the many things that we may get to know with R5/NT.

Matthew, for obvious reasons, I couldn't begin to completely answer
your question. But based on what I have seen and learned about WinNT,
we could note that due to it's advanced memory-management and
disk-access abilities, any swapping you may do during rendering
should be considerably faster (and safer!) with 3DS/NT than the old
Pharlap/DOS configuration. This is especially important when you
consider the increase in RAM requirements we will be looking at.
Just a little speculation <g>,
All things being equal and on the average machine I would expect the
R5 renderer to be slower. As NT requires 12-16 MB of RAM for just
the OS many machines will be swapping much sooner and therefore
slower. If you had a ton of RAM to begin with then I have confidence
that the Yost Group will figure out a way to make R5 even faster than
R4. They always seem to figure out some way to crank up the renderer.
