Can anyone help me with a repairer for a VLab digitiser board please?
The board is less than 12 months old and takes multiple images from a 'moving'
video source, ie it doesn't grab in real time, works OK on a still image
though.
The dealer I originally purchased the board from has ceased trading!

Hey Derek,
I have a VLab Y/C board and experienced the same behavior as your board a
few weeks ago. There may not be anything wrong with your board at all, but
the software settings may need to be changed.
Look under the CONTROL menu. Then the SCAN submenu. If there is a
checkmark by the MINIMIZE NOISE option, then that is your problem! Turn
minimize noise OFF for moving video sources. That choice is only for a
still video source.
VLab boots up with the software settings last used. I'd been grabbing
stills one day. The next day when I went to grab from a video tape the
board acted just the way you described. It threw me for a loop for a
while, but eventually I remembered about the MINIMIZE NOISE function and
turned it off.

If it is NOT simply an incorrect software setting try calling NoahJi's
(303-499-1975), the American distributer. They have been very supportive.
BTW I have upgraded to a VLab-Motion system and it is GREAT! All the fun of a
Flyer at 1/4 the price, and almost none of the problems the Flyer boys all seem
to be having. 🙂

"struggling" with NLE we can merrily be capitilizing with our VLAB-Ms <big
grin>….

Well David 🙂
It's an outstanding video production and multimedia tool that you plug into
your Amiga (mine's in an A3000)! It's outstanding because it's priced well and
provides very good video quality. It uses Motion-JPEG as it's compression
engine and does so at a full 640 x 480 image at 60 fields per second — as
opposed to those CLONE cards that claim video capabilities but at 320 x 240
(oopsss, I shouldn't have let me bias show…). When combined with the Toccata
audio board (the only way to go!) you now have complete audio and video
(synced!) editing capabilities. It uses a timeline editing interface in one of
two modes — a simple one that can handle most of your editing needs or the UPN
mode that allows you to perform multiple effects/operations simultaneously at
the expense of being a little harder to grasp. It's major draw back is that
all effects/operations must be rendered by your Amiga's CPU and complicated
things can take some time to complete. I don't have a problem with waiting for
great results but your mileage may vary…

I don't use the VLab/Motion but I know it supports ARexx and even extremely
well.

Thanks, Bart – that's great news. I'll really look into it now!
You should! Honestly! I have seen it working *and* I use other MacroSystem
software (MaestroPro and VLab static) and all that software puts ARexx to full
use.

What is MaestroPro? Something Toccata related?
