I Just bought an older 3000 and am trying to install WB 2.04. But it won't even
boot from floppy 2.04. I have the original WBench stuff and it came with a
kickstart disk. Not even my 500 uses one of these. Can I update the rom, or is
it perhaps a zorro autoconfig board I need?
any and all suggetions appreciated.

The earliest 3000's used special ROMS, and what was called SuperKickStart. This
was so C= could finish the 2.x OS after starting to sell the hardware. It is
possible (I believe, my 3000 had the 2.x ROMS when I bought it) to replace the
ROMS in your machine with 2.04 ROMS, or 3.1 ROMS. You would gain 512k of RAM
currently being used to hold the KickStart routines, but would loose a speed
advantage (32 bit RAM is accessed faster than ROMS). I'm not familer with the
version numbers of the various incarnations of 2.0, 2.01, etc to know which you
have. It's possible that something like 2.01 isn't compatible with your 2.04
Workbench floppy.
I know from other people's messages it is possible to produce a SuperKickStart
file from later versions of the OS, but don't know how to do this.
I know this isn't a lot of help, but maybe will point you in the right
direction.
