#Who makes A3070?

Does anyone know the manufacturer and model of tape drive used in the
Amiga 3070? I need to know in order to find a driver that will let me use
it on my laptop (with SCSI, of course.)

What does HDToolbox report about the device? Or Sysinfo?
HDToolbox recognizes that there is a SCSI device there, but says type is
unknown. I don't seem to have SysInfo on my hard disk right now. I'll
get it and see if it helps.

My 3070 is a Calliper tape drive…not sure of the model # though.

If you download the SCSIMounter program (I'm almost positive that the
latest version was posted in the libs just a few weeks ago), it's a
commodity that will scan the SCSI bus, and list all the devices it finds.
It will show the make/model of each device, as well as if it's ready or
not. With this program you can mount drives that weren't mounted at system
startup.

I remembered it from what Quarterback said. I just cranked up the drive,
and ran "scsi_lister" to see what it said. Scsi_lister reports that it's
a CALIPER CP150 (Rev A) drive. I got scsi_lister from the libraries here
on CIS, so that might be just the thing to use.

The 3070 is a Caliper CP-150 tape drive. Supposedly it can use 250 meg
tapes (6250) as well as 150 meg tapes (6150).

Thanks, Mike. That is just what I need. A member of the Toshiba forum
said he could locate a driver for me if I knew which drive and model. I
appreciate it.

It is a Caliper 150. Caliper was bought out by Sankyo. I guess it is now a
Sankyo. I know someone with a Sankyo and it looks just the same. I have an
A3070 but have not tried it on a PC yet. I plan to when I get the time and
the right connector.

Betty, the last I knew they were drives made by Sankyo in Irvine Ca.

Thanks, Joanne. That goes along with the other information I've been
given. Several people agree that they are Caliper CP-150 drives, made by
Sankyo.
It worked from the very first on the Amiga. Now if I can locate an MSDOS
driver and software, I can also use it on the notebook computer I use when
travelling.

Do you have SCSI on that laptop? If so, and it's ASPI compliant, there's a
great ASPITAPE.SYS device driver in the Unix forum here on CIS. I think
someone must make a parallel-port ASPI SCSI interface… Trantor, maybe?
I couldn't guarantee that the CBM tape unit would work with ASPITAPE, but
if it worked with 'btn' or 'dtape' then it probably supports standard SCSI
tape commands, and would work on the PC, too.
My SCSI interface for the Toshiba is made by Adaptec for Toshiba. It fits
on the 150-pin expansion port, and it is ASPI compliant. Thanks – I'll
look for that driver.
I use AmiBACK with the tape drive for the Amiga. But I know that I have
to have ASPI drivers for the CDROM drive on the Toshiba, so it has to be
ASPI compliant.

Betty,
PCTools from Central Point has support for SCSI tape backup with aspi
drivers and directly supports 154x, 164x and 174x series controllers. I
think ASPI came from Adaptec.
