As a new compuserve signon I recently experianced a real problem connecting to Compuserve and am posting this message to save others the dificulties I had during the Signon process. If you are having dificulties DOWNLOADING files with an amiga Terminal program this will be of interest to you. First, IGNORE compuserve tech support and setup your modem as follows: using Preferences (2.0 and above) set your Serial port to 8N1, at least a 4k buffer but not more than 16K, Activate RTS/CTS Handshaking. Get Term ver 4.3 and apply the 4.3a patch. setup Term as recomended in the Docs. DONOT FORGET TO SET THE 'SIGNATURE' OPTIONS! Chose the xprbplus library, DONOT select xprquickb. setup the defult transfer options to 'Auto Initiate' if you are using a USRobotics 14.4 modem type the following string in the modem window: AT &F B0X4 &A3&B1&H1&K3&R2 &S0S28=20 &W ;Now hit return set the Modem initilize string to "ATZ\r" this will permit transfers at 1300 odd CPS with no gobbly gook! Or Better yet, if you are going to use compuserve alot, Get AutoPilot from the AmigaVendor forum (Library 9) it's worth the money! I want to Thank this forum sysop for his help, Torkel Lodberg for the initilization string from the NCOMM3 documentation (I can't get Ncomm to work with compuserve…), and the Compuserve Tech Support folks for tring to help. if you have had these problems and need to download term initilaly use Kermit (ignore the errors… it's still faster than xmodem) or Xmodem-crc I was able to get Term with Ncomm version 1.9.
