#Trouble Down Loading

Help! I am having trouble Bownloading from Compuserve. The Problem: When I goto Download from compuserve using Quick B or Bplus I either Time Out or must wait until I see Gibberish on the screen and then down load. I I cna download I must then hang up because all I can see is gibberish. when I can acive a transfer I can only do one and that goes 1230 CPS! The Comm Programs: Either Term 4.2 or Ncomm 3 The Platform: Amiga 500+ 1 meg chip (2meg Agnus), 2 meg Fast(Alfa Ram external), OS 2.1, ADIde internal 130 meg HD (15msec), 7e1, full duplex, RTS/CTS handshaking, 8k buffer. No commodites running for these results USR Robotics 14.4 Fax Modem Setup as : B0X4 & A3 &H1 &K3 &R2 &S0 &S28=20 INIT STRING: ATZ &F0 <CR> Note: I can achive Regular File Tranfers using Zmodem on a local board. I can also Reach Full speed (1600-1700 CPS)

Sam, You'll have better luck downloading if you change your serial setting to 8N1. You will also want to set your term program to "strip high bit". The problem is that most Amiga software doesn't handle 7-bit (7e1) settings properly for binary file downloads — it's not really the software authors' fault, as the architecture of the Amiga isn't really designed to switch serial settings (like byte format) in the middle of a session. Sam, I also experienced the same problems you had using TERM. The other replies addressed your main problem. I would also like to mention that Quick-B protocal doesn't work as well (for me) as B+ when I use TERM for downloads from CIS. GOOD LUCK! RWJ
