Was visiting our newly opend "Super" Computer supermarket to-day. Of course browsed the rows of CD=ROM drives. Came across an SCSI drive that seemed a bargain at under $200. It is a CHINON Model CDS-535. Only 2X speed, but the price was right. Interesting. Packed inside was also one of those external terminators we have been writing about. Is there any news of this drive… good, bad or indifferent. I looks very well made.. Iy also has a little sticker on it, sating that it was an "Editor's Choice" (PC Magazine). All the best, HILARY.

I just checked the Xetec CD driver disc, and they claim to support the drive. They mention a problem with the CDS-435, with ROM version M60, but no other Chinon models are cited as having problems. Sounds like you've got a winner! (And you can always take it back easily if it doesn't work.) Have Fun! Erik Flom

Yes… with hope things will work. Received the Aminet AMIGA CD-ROM from DevWare to-day. Now awaiting the arrival of the small case with power supply.. which I have ordered. It cost about $90. All being well… should get moving my next week. All the best, HILARY.

Hilary: What version WorkBench are you using? Last I remember, you don't have the required software drivers for the CD-ROM? (They only come with WB 3.1) There's a shareware CD-ROM driver package here on CIS that I tried (AmiCD?), and it seemed to work OK, so you'll need to get at least that. (I think…) I look forward to hearing stories of success and excitement! :^) ….. So _now_ I read your next message! :^) Like I said above, I think the software is called AmiCD, or something like that. I just checked my DL directory, but couldn't locate the program. I'm sure if you just GO AMIGAFF, and search for CD-ROM, CD, or CDROM, you should find something. Happy Hunting! Erik Flom

Erik. I do have the 3.1 Version. Just where do you find the nice bit which operates the CD-ROM ? All the best, HILARY
