Hi All. Looking for some help with the E586dx. I have two questions:
1. The BIOS loads as an 486dx2 at 16MHZ. Is there any way to
increase the speed to be the same as your current processor.
I'm running a GVP 68030 at 33MHz.
2. How do you get the CMOS to save and remember changes to the
BIOS SetUp? Everytime I try and change the hardrive parameters
then I load up MS-DOS. If I format the partition, it always
goes back to the parameters that it originally started up with
and trashes other partitions on my drive. Last weekend alone
I had to reformat my harddrive four different time!! I'll
have to admit that I am getting gooooood at putting it back
together.

Your first problem is not a problem in itself. The emulation software just
defaults to lower available speed value when the CMOS kicks in. It doesn't
mean you are running at that speed, only that the CMOS not being able to find a
value in a lookup table, automatically assumes the lowest available value which
is 16mhz. Your second problem should be easy to solve if: a. The partition you
have selected to use as your harddrive is less than
230 MB. If it is, you are going to have to break it down into two
or more partitions. b. Make sure that these partitions are formatted on
the Amiga side first
prior to making them available to the emulation. c. When the emulations
first kicks in, make sure you get to the CMOS
screen, make the necessary value changes, and if your version of BIOS
allows it, run the HD Auto detect rather than inputing the HD
parameters yourself. d. Terminate the emulation with a (dont' quote on
this) <L-Amiga>
<R-Amiga> <Alt> combination, this will save the CMOS values whenever
you do an emulation shutdown. e. The next time, run an FDISK, and select
your active partition, and
subsequently you will then have to format it. The same goes for any
other partition that you will want to use in your emulation.
