The technical specs I was trying to enunciate were the minimum (absolute lowest
common denominator) for any future model.
It is really important for the new owners to depart on the right foot. They are
likely to get only one shot at it. The ideas – probably not particularly
original – I was bringing up are what they could do immediately, to provide for
a great new but long supported platform at a minimal startup cost.
They must consider very carefully, but also VERY RAPIDLY, their first actions
and offering.
I couldn't agree with you more, Christian. As a minimum (note a *bare*
minimum) it will do.
Also note that most of the market that you will be advertising to is relatively
(or totally) unaware of the efficiency of the programming (both OS and
otherwise) that has been the hallmark of the Amiga. To them a 300 MB HD is
definitely a low-end machine these days.
So, for an entry-level model the 300 is ok, but the professionally oriented
models would *have* to have a cost-effective 1 GB model. With hard drive
prices now down to the $0.40 per meg range, this should be easily achievable.
