Another problem with Real 3-D v.2.35. When I try to run the first practice project, I get: ERROR! Screens.c 254 Unknown screen mode then… error detected while loading S… continue? And when I try to set-up a ham screen, I get: ERROR! getscr.c 136 Cannot find screenmode. Help! I am running Magic Workbench. Could this be a problem? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.. -Dan

Hi again Dan. The problem you are having loading the projects are because they originally made in a different screen mode than is currently available. The project should still load in a default (workbench) screen mode. From here you can change the environment to a sreenmode of your preference. One thing to remember if you want to save an environment that you like for later use, you must save it as a project file. Save Environment doesn't work. For the other problem of opening a HAM screen, I believe you are trying to use the View>Render>HAM menu choice, right. I also can't do it this way. I think its a bug somewhere. What you can do is open up a HAM screen using the Project>Environment>Open screen function. From here you can select any screenmode, screen size and color depth. This screen can be open in addition to other screens in your project. However, if you have an Opal board (your previous question), you should use that to render to. Let me know if this helps. Working with screenmodes, etc, in Real is confusing at first.

Thank goodness you're here, John! I am really confused about this program and I sincerely appreciate your help. I think I understand what you're talking about regarding the default WB. When I proceed after getting the screenmode error messages, a second WB screen opens at the bottom 1/3 of my monitor and it only contains the animation screen. But, I'm having trouble getting the animation to run. It goes very slowly for only a couple of frames and then it stops. Maybe I'm not setting it up properly. I'm going to spend some time this afternoon playing with screenmodes and environments. Hopefully I'll figure this thing out! Have you heard if there is going to be another version coming out? If so, how do we upgrade? I hope you don't mind, but you're probably going to be getting alot more questions from me in the near future! 🙂 I really want to get into 3-D rendering and animation. I've been waiting to get Real 3-D for a couple of years and now that I finally have it, I'm bound and determined to learn this sucker! Thanks for all your help! -Dan

Hi Dan, Glad to help when I can. You have to do a lot of experimenting with the screenmodes and environments to get the hang of them. Once you get that animation screen to open up, go to Environment>Open Screens and open a screenmode of your choice. Then you'll be looking at a blank screen. From here, begin opening up a View window, a Select window, a Tool window etc. Then you can go back to the WB and close that animation window. Once you get an environment you like, remember to save it (as a Project). You say that the animation plays very slowly for a couple of frames and then stops. It sounds like you are trying a collision detection animation. These take very long to calculate the physics between frames. I don't know why it take as long as it does. Also, when you play one of these collision detection things, you must go to Undo to reset the animation and go back to frame one. Don't just hit the right arrow to go back to frame one; it doesn't work with collision detection. Even though it says it is on frame one, the object doesn't return to the starting point. You'll get an animation that plays from the spot it left off the last time it was played. If you were trying a collision detection, my advice is to save that for later. Go through the manual word for confusing word, and then read it again. That's what I did. I understand version 3.0 will be out end of this month. $185 for the upgrade. You can call their BBS and inquire about ordering. (519)436-0140. Hope it helps. 8^).
