anyone out there familiar with Lightwave 3D? I have two questions:
1) how do you convert PMS colors (used for print-graphics) to RGB
colors? i've done the frame-grab thing, then used "pick" in
TPaint, but I was hoping to be a bit more precise and to be
able to tell my client that therese ARE his colors…
2) same client wants to show finished animation on a huge screen which
is also 16 x 9 aspect ratio. i know about rendering in
letterboxc
but is there a format i can render in that will show
FULL-SCREEN
on a 16×9 screen, without squished black bands on the top and
bottom, etc.? Newtek hasn't been much help, and I've got a note
in to John Gross, but no reply yet..

1) Get a good PMS swatche book and it should give you the RGB equivelent #s to
start with. Good Luck……
2) LW 4.0 is supposd to render to 16/9 aspect ratio and others for movie stuff
:^) Perhaps you can do the same with LW 3.5 by just setting the Custom render
settings. You could always just render to High res or Print res and crop the
image to the correct size you need. Of coarse you need lots O' Ram or VMEM.

Get the Pantone "Process Color Imaging Guide" it shows the -CMYK- equivalents
as percentages of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (K).
You will still need to convert from THAT to RGB values. I use either Brilliance
or ProDraw… They have palette requesters that show BOTH values or switch
between. Just enter the CMYK and read the RGB.

I've worked with a Pantone book that gives you the RGB equivelents #s.
Depending on your application (Print, Trans, Video) you should always choose
your color space at the start and stick with it. Avoid CMYK<>RGB
transformations like the plague :^) Just a friendly tip.
And NEVER trust your monitor, go with the #s.

What book is THAT? I've never seen it, might come in handy!
It's a little hard to avoid CMYK<>RGB entirely, when different programs use
different color spaces. Even HSV/LAB/etc.! ARRRGH!

You have just ran in to one of the most perplexing problems I have
come across. If you have a DTP program you could enter the Panatone
#'s into the Pallet then switch to an RGB scale and there you have
it. The problem is that of the two DTP programs I have ProPage and
PageStream, One uses a 16 level RGB scale, and the other uses
Percentages. I usualy use PageStream and the Precentages, it's more
acurate. You still need to do some math but it works.

If one of your 3 panatone #'s is 25. Multiply 25 x 256. Then
Divide (25×256) / 100 = X. Then Repeat this for the other 2 Numbers.
