#Memory
4 messages in this thread
The new software does use much more memory than previous versions. The memory
savings Get Small produced were due to not loading up all the effects a regular
project loaded, and since 4.0 does not load effects at startup, there is no way
to do an equivalent to Get Small — it already is as small as it can get.
When Lightwave 4.0 is ready it will ship with 4.1, which is still a few weeks
aaway.
Lightwave 3.5 does in fact render to the Flyer, if you turn on Save Anim and
set anim type to Medium resolution preview. Hollywood effects is not making
use of this, but it is present.

Chuck,
I understand this technique, but from what Steve at Hollywood Effects has told
me, this give less colors than their technique of going to an RGB and then
going through Toaster Paint.
However, I just ran a test. Hollywood Effects stopped render a 160 frame scene
at frame 51. Since the system crashed, I was able to complete the rendering via
Lightwave.
I placed the two croutons together at the proper frame and ran the entire
scene. I can't tell the difference between the two.
I sent Hollywood Effects a direct tape of this for them to compare.
Maybe someone like Wayne can jump in here and tell me if there should be a
difference, but what I see looks the same.
Chuck, I think I also asked this question, but in case I didn't, how come I
can't run Toaster Paint 3.1 in Flyer 4.03. I use to be able to do it in .94.
I get an error saying not enough memory.
So, in order to run Composite Studio, I had to install my 3.1 Toaster on a
separate drive. Must be a better way.

Lightwave renders an RGB when doing an anim save, and the routine that converts
that RGB to VTASC is the same whether taking the RGB straight from Lightwave
with the Anim save option turned on, or whether taking an RGB from TPaint, so
the results are identical. Some have had the misimpression tha LW renders a
HAM8 image when Save Anim is used, but this was never the case.
As the software matures the modules are more dependent on each other, so where
you could run an older version TPaint in .94, the software is not going to let
you get away with that in 4.03 and up.
PMFJI, but I would assume that both versions of the anim would look the
same, because they are both essentially the same process. 24-bit original
file is translated to a Med-Res Preview file (HAM8?). In essence, you're
either doing the translation in Lightwave, or in ToasterPaint, right?
