Folks, Here are a few problems with the Flyer (and some workarounds) that I have picked up through trial and error in working on a project with about 55 video clips all in HQ5 mode that I have been adding sound tracks to. i am using a Toster 4000/Flyer in an A4000 equipped with a 40 MHz WarpEngine, version 4.03 software, and two 9 GB Seagate drives. I have found that the Flip Chrome Edge effect in the Effects/Digital drawer will not run within the project when sound icons are present. When the project reaches this transition, the last frame of the preceding video clip is presented on the Flyer's output and their is no way to exit short of rebooting. I discovered that the reason is that when I try and run the Chrome Edge effect with a project loaded, I get a dialog box stating insufficient memory to load effect. I am sure this refers to chip memory, and the 2 MB of chip memory present in my A4000 is insufficient to load and run this effect within a project. The interesting (an unexplained) part is that this effect ran fine within the project until audio clips were added. Secondly, if flashing occurs when you begin inserting audio clips within your project, it is a sure sign that somewhere you have too many sound tracks overlapping. When I ocassionally encountered flashing in running the project, I found that I could always eliminate the flashing by carefully adjusting the length of the nearest audio clip. Third, I have encountered a clear bug with several effects. If you have these effects (which always seem to be overlay effects) present in a project and you select the effect *in the project* and click on controls, you will crash your computer when you attempt to close the controls panel. An example of an effect which produces this is the Wipe Twisting B&W Band in the Effects/Wipes Drawer. Any attempt to open the controls panel for this (and several other similar overlay effects) when the effect is within a project always crashes the computer. Interesingly enough, the controls panel for these effects can be opened and closed without problem in the files (bottom part) of the project/files screen. NewTek needs to correct this bug ASAP as it often causes loss of valuable work if you have not saved your project and happen to open the Controls panel for one of these effects within a project. Incidentally, these overlay effects run fine in the project provided you don't open the Controls panel and attempt to adjust their timing. Just take the effect from the Files window, place it in the project and run it. It will work fine and not crash the computer. Once these problems were addressed I find that my 25 minute project all in HQ5 mode and with sound effect clips, including several split edits, runs absolutely perfectly. Hope you find these clues useful since I hve benefitted so much from the specific information provided by many of you on the Flyer. Tom
