Have just been in touch with Intel and they seem to have discontinued
selling the Smart Video Recorder Pro, it seem now that IBM sells it.
Is this significant in that there are problems with the latest
version?
Will the FAST Movie Line Pro, or competive products do much more for
me than the Intel/IBM card? The Fast come with a "special version" of
Permiere.

If I can jump in here for a sec… The Fast Movie Line Pro, unlike the Smart
Video Recorder Pro, was designed to allow you to *output* digitized video as
well as input it. So right there, it's got an advantage (people who's used it
say the output's *slightly* sub-VHS, but are pretty impressed with it anyway
given its cost…).

You may want to give the miro products a good looking over. Many forum members
say that the installation is much less painless than other boards.
miro has NTSC output on the DC1TV and capture without output with the 20TD
boardset. Some vendors bundle it with software. But check what version of
Adobe premier is being bundled, you don't want 1 or 1.1 but rather 4.0.
The Fast system offers another advantage for the videographer. It lets you do
both real time linear digital effects (A/B rolls, title overlay, chroma key)
and NLE. As for ease of set up, it can be a crap shoot. For any NLE product I
recommend this minimum configuration. Pentium, 16 MB RAM, 1 gig fast Eide or
scsi harddrive, 1 MB or more video card. If your computer is loaded wiht a
bunch of other "multi-media" boards, make sure you know all your available IRQ
and Port addresses before you start installing. I used Winprobe, and it really
saved me a ton of time and effort.
