#NewTek NAB news
7 messages in this thread
I just uploaded the full text of NewTek 's press releases from the NAB
show in Las Vegas, covering the announcements about the new flyer,
the new Toaster, and LightWave.
Any questions? I was there! 🙂
Yeah- So how is this new xbox? How's the new PAR? How's Trinity? What was
really great? Thanks!
Mike
I didn't get much time to study the new PAR, but I hear from reliable
sources that it is very cool. As for the Flyer external, I assume
that's what you meant by 'xbox' because I couldn't think of anything
else that meant :-), I think it's an interesting solution. There may
be literally dozens of other video-hard-disks out there today, but
few if any are portable and controllable from an LCD front panel
display monitor. It's much like an appliance that happens to use
some well-known and lovable gizmos inside.
As for Trinity? I think the real secret to Play Inc. is that they're
going to sell gajillions of "Snappy," their $200-ish parallel port
video digitizer for the PC, and it's going to dwarf any potential
sales from Trinity. And it's also very possible that they'll make
more money by spinning off and unbundling the applications for
Trinity, than selling the box itself. The paint program is killer.
How many paint programs can you think of that have a time-line
editor?
Thanks for the upload, John! (And congrats on "first?" plug-in status for
InterChange!) I am hoping that my Lightwave NT arrives today (If they really
did start shipping yesterday, it should) so I can check it out.
As I understand it from the press release, all I need to do is to purchase
InterChange for Windows(NT) and then it will realize that Lightwave is online
and seamlessly integrate the two packages for a combined functionality. My
question is, is the Windows(NT) version of Interchange shipping?
-John
Well, at least I'm claiming "first" status. I've been trying to help
Allen and Stuart get many plug-in issues resolved, and for a while
there, it seemed like I was the only person outside of NewTek who'd
actually compiled one. I've adapted the makefiles to be Visual C
project files, which makes plug-in development a snap, if you're
familiar with Windows C programming. 🙂
No, InterChange for Windows is still in beta testing… but what we've
done is adapt the entire InterChange program into a second executable
that's actually a LightWave plug-in. The new plug-in actually
invokes all the other DLLs (aka, plug-ins) that actually compose
ordinary InterChange, so it's a case of plug-ins calling other
plug-ins!
Didn't I see you for a fraction of a second at NAB?
John,
So the plug-in version _is_ available now, but the standalone version is not?
You might have seen my dad out there, I am afraid that I was stuck back here
running the store, however.
-John
Yes, it was an older gentleman. I knew there were two of you. 🙂
LightWave includes new plug-ins for reading and writing 3D Studio, DXF
and Wavefront. The enhancement plug-in that'll ship with InterChange
for Windows hasn't even been named yet, although we have a
proof-of-concept working here. InterChange for Windows is in beta
testing now. In fact, I have to mail out another round of 80 copies
to all the testers on Monday. Sheesh, I know what I'll be doing this
weekend.
