Martin, I wanted to complement you again on the great presentation you did on TSE at the Graphics Symposium in NYC today. Also great news about the sale price! There is no excuse for people not to get into scripting now! <g> – Dave

Sale price? Sale price!? I'm ALWAYS in the market for another IPAS, particularly on sale. What's the scoop?

>>Sale price? Sale price!? I'm ALWAYS in the market for another IPAS, particularly on sale. What's the scoop?<< A little bird told me that TSE might be soon available for $200. Plus, it'll have a bunch of excellent scripts bundled with it. I think that the power of the scripts that are freely available might justify this new price, even to people who have no intention of writing their own. Jim

>> A little bird told me that TSE might be soon available for $200. I believe that $200 is a current sale price related to a show taking place in NYC today (and yesterday). Hopefully MartinD can jump in to verify this. – Dave

David– That's right. For a limited time, anyone can now call Schreiber Instruments and get The Script Extension for 50% off — about $200. A press release appear here shortly. I'm glad you enjoyed the class. Martin

Whoa! $200? That's the bargain of the century… How many sample scripts does it come with, and what do they do?

>> Whoa! $200? That's the bargain of the century… << Yep. Now that 3DS users are getting comfortable with the new Release 4 features and scripting is becoming more established, we decided it was time to open things up a bit! >> How many sample scripts does it come with, and what do they do? << Well, I'm glad you asked! No fewer than 21 sample scripts are included, not counting all TSE scripts here on CompuServe, many of which we're throwing on the shipping disk just to make sure you get them. The default set of scripts created for TSE include four AXP scripts, four IXP scripts, eight PXP scripts, and five SXP scripts. Most are commented extensively throughout, in addition to being useful. DEFACE.A3D – eats objects away over time by deleting faces INFLUENC.A3D – Ed Kellerman's awesome particle engine TORNADO.A3D – Variant on a tornado particle system (bee swarm) TORNADO2.A3D – Another variant on a tornado particle system BLOWAWAY.I3D – Ed Kellerman's particle system adapted for pixels! FILTER.I3D – Tint your images like a colored camera filter RGB-SEP.I3D – RGB color separation Z-BUFFER.I3D – David Marks' Z-buffer filter; cut mattes and tint by depth BITMAP.P3D – UI code for displaying bitmaps BLIT.P3D – more UI code for displaying bitmaps CUBE.P3D – procedural primitive (a how-to) CYLINDER.P3D – another procedural primitive GAMMA.P3D – Gamma comparison routine (also a how-to) POOLBALL.P3D – Collision detection with an Ed Kellerman twist SXPBALL.P3D – Intelligent animating through data embedding (w/SXPBALL.S3D) WATRFALL.P3D – Ed Kellerman's famous waterfall CHECKER.S3D – Checkerboard solid texture COLORSPC.S3D – Rainbow spectrum solid texture STRIPE.S3D – Stripes! I would be interested in more information; prices, ordering info, etc. Thanks, Matt

Matthew: Thanks for inquiring. The Script Extension is a plug-in product for 3D Studio Release 4 which supplements R4's Keyscript keyframe scripting language with scripting modules for the other IPAS plug-in types: PXP, AXP, IXP and SXP. You can find a press release on The Script Extension in Library 9 called TSEREL.TXT. You can also contact Schreiber Instruments for more details at 1- 800-252-1024. I would be more than happy to answer any specific questions here, as well! Martin

I'll second that. I think the MOST important news was the revelation from "M" himself that once the script is working it is very easy for anyone with a grasp of "C" to turn your script into IPAS. Honorable mention should also go out to Tom Hickson (Schreiber) showing Puppetteer's latest feature "Realtime face tracking" using Adaptive Optics laser gear, Tim Forcade showing off samples of his new book and putting on quite a show, Richard Enriquez (HSC) exploring Kai's Gradient Designer for 3DS, and the guys from Positron showing off Mesh Paint and DMM. It WAS the hot ticket this week. Lee "lost in Queens" Steel
